Donating Blood

Donating blood is an amazing thing. According to the Red Cross, one donation of blood can save three lives. Blood donation is safe for healthy adults. There’s no risk of contracting the disease. New, sterile equipment is used for each donor.

Donating blood helps people who go through disasters or emergencies, loss of blood during surgery. It can also help women who have at-risk pregnancies.

It’s not only the blood receiver that benefits from a blood donation. Donator has many benefits, as well. In order to donate blood, one must go through a health checkup. This test checks blood pressure, Hemoglobin levels. So, when you donate blood you can get a free health checkup! According to The American Journal of Epidemiology, donating blood can lower one’s risk of heart disease significantly

Another great benefit is that you can get rid of overloads of iron in one’s blood. One in every two hundred people in the U.S. is affected by a condition called hemochromatosis and most don’t even know it. Hemochromatosis is a disease that causes iron overload and is labeled as the most common genetic disease among Caucasians.

Additionally, donating blood has a very strong effect on one’s mental health. When one donates blood, they are saving someone’s life and giving them something they desperately need. This is great for people who suffer from depression because it causes one to have a great sense of gratification. It can also help those who suffer from anxiety because donating blood causes one’s blood pressure to lower, which causes one to relax.

One cannot donate if:

  • They have gotten a piercing in the last 12 months
  • If they have diabetes
  • If they had Mad Cow disease
  • If they have the flu
  • If they are pregnant

Gap year students can help Israel tremendously! They can help sick people in the hospital, they can help injured IDF soldiers, and cancer patients! Many gap year programs have blood donating services once or twice a year. So, we highly recommend to sign up for them.

We at EMA Care highly recommend donating blood. Not only does donate blood save lives, but it also has many health benefits and mental health benefits. Donating blood can be done through Magen David Adom in Israel and through many Israeli organizations.

Recommended by an Infectious Disease Specialist

My experience with Ema Care has been so positive that I wanted to share it in case it could help someone else. Eight days ago my daughter, a Shanah Bet student, called to say she wasn’t feeling well and had symptoms of Covid-19. I was put in touch with an Infectious Disease specialist who recommended Ema Care. I reached Dr. Eliana Aaron easily and signed my daughter up. The next morning, Ema Care gave my daughter a telehealth exam and provided her with prescriptions, as well as a list of
